Forum

Dear all,

I would like to invite you all to participate actively in this forum to express your own opinion about this project. For your kind consideration I am presenting following two questions to reflect on.

1. What do you think about the concept of "Community Participation against Corruption"? and/or

2. How do you think community can effectively participate in this approach?

Kind regards,

Wasif

  1. Dear Wasif,
Community participation against corruption is a good idea. Especially in the context of Bangladesh there are many examples of successful participation of common people for creating massive changes during need. So I totally agree with you.

But the community needs to be organized collectively against corruption. Community should be engaged in monitoring the work of public delivery agencies and involved in different phases of policy implementation to control corruption.

  3. Hi Wasif

It is really good to hear that you are doing a project on corruption. As a citizen of Bangladesh I think it is a time demanding theme and of course most importantly as you wish to work on community, it makes me very interested about your project.

Surely, I didn't have much more idea about community participation against corruption but from your description I got a clear idea about the matter.

I think community participation is important to eradicate corruption from a country like Bangladesh. It might work well. However, I am a little confused how you implement this idea in developing countries like Bangladesh where civil society is not strong enough and interestingly, we don't have many effective civil society organizations. Of course, I believe you will show some guidelines regarding this matter.

It might be tough to include people in this process effectively. I think proper training on this issue can may a way for effective participation. In addition, you can conduct Participatory Rural Appraisal for rural communities.

As a member of Bangladesh civil service I will accompany you in your journey against corruption. Best of luck.

  5. Hi Wasif,

Dealing with corruption is actually dealing with the power. Community development focuses giving the power back to community. Community development approach against corruption is a very good start.
